About Us

Emily Mayhew, MEd, LPC, CSC, EMDR Trained

As the owner and founder of Harbor of Hope Counseling and Wellness, my goal is to serve you with compassion and integrity.  I have over 20 years combined experience as a Licensed Professional Counselor, school counselor, educator, and a fitness instructor. My experiences allow me to bring a unique perspective to the therapeutic process.  I utilize a strong Biblical foundation and holistic approach to therapy to address the needs of the whole client: body, mind, and spirit. Using the latest research on brain development, as well as training in mindfulness, relaxation techniques, expressive therapies, trauma processing  EFT,  and EMDR,  I equip my clients with useful skills and tools for successful daily living.  I became passionate about holistic healing modalities as a result of personal and family health issues and strive to help my clients live a life of hope, health, and healing!

I specialize in post traumatic growth and enjoy helping my clients find hope and long-term healing after life's hardships. I foster a non-judgmental environment where people of all ages are encouraged to grow and flourish into the people they were created to be.  I also specialize in leadership development, including those in church ministry.

I earned my Graduate Certificate of Counseling and a Master in Education School Counseling, from Dallas Baptist University. I also hold a Bachelor degree in Education with an Early Childhood emphasis from Northern Arizona University.  I am an active member of the Texas Counseling Association and the American Association of Christian Counselors.

Jennifer Erickson, LMFT Graduate Student

Supervised by  Mercedes Burk, LPC-S, LMFT-S

I am currently pursuing a master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy at Abilene Christian University. I hold a bachelor’s degree in Human Services, specializing in Social Work, from Colorado State University.

Originally from Colorado, I have called Texas home for the past seven years. I live in the Dallas area with my husband and children. I am deeply passionate about therapy, having personally experienced the transformative power of counseling in my own life.

My professional journey has been centered on working with at-risk youth, children, adolescents, and families, with a special focus on supporting children who have experienced trauma. I offer experiential and hands-on techniques, including play and art therapy for children.  I am also dedicated to helping individuals rediscover their strengths and work toward their goals for a fulfilling and meaningful life.

I am committed to guiding clients through life’s challenges—whether related to relationships, life events, or the emotions that shape the human experience.  Relationships are complex, and every couple faces challenges. As a therapist passionate about helping partners navigate difficulties, I provide a supportive and nonjudgmental space where couples can rebuild trust, enhance communication, and deepen their connection. Whether you're facing conflict, life transitions, or simply feeling disconnected, I tailor my approach to meet your unique needs, drawing from evidence-based techniques like Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and the Gottman Method.

I would be honored to walk alongside you in your own life journey, empowering you to take control of your story and create the life you envision.
